Alpa Shah Basu

                     
Alpa Shah Basu began learning Bharat Natyam, Kathak, and all-India folk dance from her Guru and mother Smt. Alka Shah at the age of three. In 2000, she completed her Arangetram.
 
Since then, Alpa has performed for the Mahavir Ahimsa Varsh celebrations of the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, as well as in numerous Nritya Kendra productions. She has also participated in the Jain Center of America - New York's week-long Pratishtha Mahotsav festival, which included playing major roles in two dance ballets entitled "Anandrang" and "Bhaktambar." Alpa has performed at such prestigous venues as the United Nations and City Hall. Alpa had the privilege of playing her mother's role in a re-creation of the dance ballet "Kamdev Dahen." 
 
Alpa has completed her Master of Fine Arts Degree in Bharat Natyam from the Bharata College of Fine Arts - Bombay University. 
In 2019, she formed the Maeri Dance Company, which aims to present both traditional and more contemporary forms of dance.
